EDI interface between Van Delft Biscuits and Bakker Logistiek
Van Delft Biscuits’ history goes back to 1880, when Jan van Delft buys a bakery in Zaandam (NL). Van Delft currently ranks among the top 10 of the leading biscuit manufacturers in Europe. Van Delft is market leader in Dutch spice nuts and gingerbread, chocolate spice nuts and related St. Nicholas merchandise, but also in healthy snacks like fruit biscuits, fruit cereal biscuits, fruit bars, sprinkles, children’s biscuits and chocolate biscuits. For its (production) automation, Van Delft uses Exact Globe and was in search of a means of communication between its administration and logistics service provider Bakker Logistiek. Bakker Logistiek specialises in the transport and warehousing of food and related products and uses mainly EDI to communicate with its customers. Van Delft opted for the Exact EDI Gateway of Optimizers because this tool is flexible, is certified by Exact and the interface can be implemented without a great deal of custom work.
EDI message types
Optimizers created a number of plugins on the existing software following the wishes of Bakker Logistiek, enabling the Instruction to Despatch (INSDES) message to be sent from Van Delft. Subsequently, Van Delft receives messages from Bakker Logistiek about which orders have been processed (OSTRPT – Order Status Report), these messages are then processed automatically within Exact Globe into a delivery on this sales order of Van Delft Biscuits. The delivery registration to the purchaser is done by a delivery message (DESADV – Despatch Advice) sent by Bakker Logistiek.
Goods transshipped to the warehouses of Bakker Logistiek are registered by Van Delft Biscuits with a DESADV message. The goods received are reported back by Bakker Logistiek to Van Delft Biscuits via a receipt message (RECADV – Receiving Advice) The stock levels are read in from Bakker Logistiek by Van Delft via a stock inventory (INVRPT – Inventory Report) and the differences are processed within Exact Globe after assessment. This way, the records are always correct and one knows exactly which stocks there are at the logistics service provider
Communication with customers
In addition to EDI communication with its logistics service provider, Van Delft also uses the Exact EDI Gateway for its customers. Here Van Delft receives orders and sends delivery note and invoice messages; these (ORDER, APERAK, DESADV and INVOIC) messages are all processed by the Exact EDI Gateway.
SSCC module
Within the delivery note messages, the SSCC data are used that are recorded during the receipt of products. This tool is fully integrated within Exact Globe and generates the SSCC labels and numbers required for the EDI messages. This way, Van Delft Biscuits has its communications with its logistics service provider and its (international) customers within the Exact EDI Gateway perfectly in order!
